Pulling on the Thread covers local government in the Wabash Valley using public records: state audit reports, meeting minutes, claims dockets, contracts, and records obtained under Indiana’s open records law. Every story is built on documents, and every document is linked so you can check my work.

Sometimes the records show a problem. Sometimes they show the county did it right. I publish both, because you can’t trust the first if I won’t print the second.

The name is the method. You find one loose thread in a document — a promise nobody kept, a number that doesn’t match, a rule the county wrote for itself and then didn’t follow — and you pull it, and you see what comes apart.

Most threads go nowhere. Some don’t.
